Hot Water Beach, New Zealand - Jan 15, 2010

This was our second stop. We started at the far end of the beach (the surf area) and took some pictures of the surfers. That's something we'll need to try soon! We walked along the beach and made our way to the hot spring. This is an interesting area. There are underground hot sprints below the beach and during low tide the hot water filters up through the sand. If you find just the right spot, you can dig a hole and have a natural hot tub! We spent a couple hours there, but unfortunately didn't think to bring a shovel. You really need to dig too deep to use your hands. We asked a few people that had holes, but everyone said their water was cold... Not sure if anyone was in the right spot, maybe it is just a small area that gets hot?
